Eric “Snip3down” Wrona is a legend in the Halo community. However, his star shone the most thanks to the publicity that the Apex Legends Global Series has brought him. He was already a superstar in Halo, but his stint in Apex Legends is what got him even more famous. So why is that after retiring from competitive Halo, Snip3down is set to leave Apex Legends for Halo Infinite? Why is Snip3down returning from his Halo retirement, when arguably, Apex Legends may be the more lucrative option?

A brief history of Snip3down's career

Snip3down has been a competitive player for as long as anyone could care to remember. He would begin his esports journey at the age of 17, participating in various MLG tournaments on Halo 3. He would catch his first major victory in MLG Orlando 2008, where he won first place with Triggers Down, 3-0'ing Str8 Rippin. Their dominance in that finals matchup would get him poached by Str8 Rippin, then winning MLG Toronto a month later against Instinct. It's with Str8 Rippin that he would win his first Halo championship when they won MLG National Championship 2008 in November of that year.

He would continue to experience massive success with Str8 Rippin for the next two years. Bigger things are laid out for Snip3down, however. He would join Evil Geniuses in 2014 to set off in yet another competitive hot streak. He would win a string of championships with Evil Geniuses until he moved on with Team EnVyUs in 2016, and then subsequently played for Team Reciprocity in late 2017. It was with Team Reciprocity where Snip3down would pivot in his career. However, before his move to Apex Legends, Snip3down was able to win 24 Halo championships and 2 XGames medals.

Moving into Apex Legends

Having achieved everything there is to achieve in Halo, Snip3down turned his sights to new targets. When Apex Legends was due to come out in early 2019, organizations braced themselves for impact. Anticipating the new esports environment that Electronic Arts and DICE will bring with their new esports title, Snip3down transitioned to Team Reciprocity's newly-formed Apex Legends team.

His early days with Apex Legends would prove to be rocky. Having failed to break out with Team Reciprocity, Snip3down decided to move in with Team SoloMid, after brief stints with other organizations. It is with TSM that Snip3down would return to glory, making a new name in Apex Legends, while amplifying his legendary status in the Halo community. His consistently good performance with TSM would make him one of the most respected voices in the community, essentially becoming one of the pillars of Apex Legends‘ pro scene.

Moving back to Halo

However, all this is set to change. While Snip3down kept all of his obligations in check with Apex Legends and with Team SoloMid, the call of the battlefield never waned for him. It's hard to turn down your first love, and Snip3down definitely didn't take the call of Halo back out of the equation.

It's not that he didn't resist. After all, Snip3down did tweet that he “likely won't be competing” in Halo Infinite. The game's shadow launch has caught him off-guard, and he had no time to practice the game to be able to play competitively with his schedule in Apex Legends. But his flirtation with Halo won't stop there. He would continue playing Halo Infinite on stream, anyway, and would even join the HCS Raleigh kick-off event with FaZe Clan. It's interesting to note that HCS Raleigh would coincide with the on-going Apex Legends Global Series, and in fact, Snip3down would play in both tournaments on-stream.

However, after finishing second in Round 4 of the ALGS Split 1, he would sit on stream silently, before ending his stream. Shortly after, he sent out a cryptic tweet that all but confirms his move back to Halo.

Why did Snip3down leave Apex Legends for Halo Infinite

For all intents and purposes, it's worth noting that neither Snip3down nor TSM have announced anything official yet. However, it's more of a matter of when, rather than if. His teammates have already confirmed his departure on-stream, while his decision to join with FaZe Clan has also been leaked by other pros and personalities days prior to his cryptic tweet.

Regarding his decision, Snip3down has not made any statements yet on how he arrived at his decision. However, it's clear that Snip3down's real love is Halo. He may have gone on a detour in Apex Legends when his former organization Team Reciprocity diversified, but it does not mean his love for Halo ever wavered. Now with a new title and a fresh competitive scene coming on the horizon, Snip3down's all set to conquer yet another peak. But at the age of 30, will Snip3down still be able to dominate in the field that he used to own?
