Kevin Hayes returned from his second abdominal surgery in the loss against Dallas on November 13th. During the win against the Flames on November 16th, Hayes left towards the end of the second period after being tangled up with Elias Lindholm. He would end up returning in the third period for the Flyers.

After the game, Hayes said there was an initial panic about what had happened, but the trainers were able to figure things out after talking to him. However, Hayes has now missed the last two games and is set to miss some more time moving forward. He reinjured his abdominal muscles once more and is now considered week to week.

As if right now, it looks like Hayes will avoid having his third surgery in six months. He went on the team’s trip to Florida as he will be undergoing further tests in Tampa. He is expected to remain there for a few days.

Hayes had core muscle surgery back in May, returned for training camp, and then needed another abdominal surgery on September 21st. It was related to the original he suffered. Hayes felt the injury occur as he was skating before camp began. He would miss the first 12 games of the season as the Flyers placed him on LTIR.

So the Flyers will once again be without Hayes for the time being days after they lost Ryan Ellis again as well. He will be out four-to-six weeks as he was recently put on LTIR.

Wade Allison skating, Tyson Foerster could miss significant time

That’s not the only injury update that has come out recently. Wade Allison has been recovering from a high ankle sprain and has been sidelined since the Flyers rookie game in Voorhees back in September. High ankle sprains can be tricky so there was never a true timeline on his return.

It looks like he has began skating again and has been see in the Lehigh Valley area recently. It looks like he is expected to join the Phantoms lineup in the next two-to-three weeks.

The bad news involves the Flyers 2020 first round selection. Tyson Foerster has been out of the Phantoms lineup for the last nine games. He suffered a shoulder injury diving for a puck during a 5-on-3 power play.

According to Flyers assistant GM Brent Flahr, he could be out for about five months. That would end his 2021-22 season. Foerster had remained in the AHL due to the league agreeing that junior-eligible players could remain if they had played 20 games last season.

Foerster appeared in 24 games last season, grabbing 10 goals and 17 points. In the nine games he played in this season, he recorded two goals and three points overall. It would be a huge blow to Foerster who had been making huge strides at the professional level.

It adds to a slew of other Phantoms who have been hit by the injury bug as well. Samuel Morin remains sidelined and has not begun skating since knee surgery before the season. Tanner Laczynski still had a few months before he likely returns from hip surgery. Ryan Fitzgerald has been on the non-roster injury list since the beginning of the year. Linus Sandin took a puck to the face and could be out for a month.

So it’s been a time go for the Flyers prospects this season. But getting Wade Allison back, potentially in a month, could be a boost to the Flyers. He played well during his stint with the team last season. They could certainly use a scoring boost.
