An eastern Iowa man is facing criminal charges after a threat against North Mahaska High School circulated online.

Levi Garrett DeLong, 20, of Muscatine, is charged with two counts of first-degree harassment and one felony count of making threats of terrorism.

The charges stem from an incident reported to Mahaska County deputies in September 2021. At the time, authorities were made aware of a threat made against North Mahaska High School and one of its students.

Officers responded to the school and spoke with the student and the student’s parents. Investigators discovered the threat was made via Snapchat. The threat was reportedly made when the student refused to send inappropriate photos to the unknown sender.

Authorities continued to investigate the complaint through a series of social media subpoenas and interviews. Charges were filed Monday as a result.

An arrest warrant has been issued against DeLong.
