EPCOT took a step towards a more sustainable future recently, as the park is debuting a new cast member costume made partially from recycled plastic bottles.

The seafoam green costume, worn by the Festivals Team, sports the new World Showcase icon, which has been featured, along with all the new and reimagined pavilion icons, in the flags now flying at the park’s entrance.

While only the Festivals Team was mentioned, this new outfit could prove to be a possible replacement for the World Showcase costumes seen at the festivals, which featured the flags of all eleven countries with pavilions, as seen below.

The next festival scheduled is the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays, which kicks off this Friday, November 26th.

  1. This technique has been around for a few years, but Disney is trying to claim it as their own. 🤦🏼‍♂️

  2. Another blatantly transparent cost cutting move on the part of Disney in the name of “going green.” In reality it is about saving Disney’s green money not the environment. Ergo, prison or motel style wall mounted bath product dispensers in $1,000 + per night hotel rooms with no daily housekeeping. Shameful and demeaning to guests.

Even assuming that environmental impact of these shirts is less, they are generic and have no connotation to World Showcase or Epcot. I would be less concerned about your generic cast costume and more concerned with bringing back the cultural representatives from each county, which are integral part of World Showcase. But again, Disney will hide behind “COIVD” from doing so, just like the parking lot trams are too dangerous to operate.

  3. you people do realize that 1% or less equals partially, right? but hey, if you fall for this news then you must really love chapek and what he is doing today. #firechapek!

  4. I remember when CMs used to say that EPCOT stood for “Epcot’s polyester costumes of torture”. Looks like the ‘P” now stands for plastic. 😂
