Edinburg woman killed in crash on Illinois 104 near Bulpitt identified

An Edinburg woman who was killed when her vehicle collided with a Caterpillar tractor wheel loader on Illinois 104 in Christian County Saturday has been identified.

Christian County coroner Amy Calvert Winans said Monday that Lori McTaggart, 48, died of multiple blunt injuries according to preliminary autopsy results.

McTaggart was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:13 p.m. Saturday.

The crash occurred near the village of Bulpitt.

According to Illinois State Police, McTaggart was driving a Jeep Wrangler and was traveling eastbound on Illinois 104 near James Street when she moved into the westbound lane to pass vehicles traveling eastbound. McTaggart then drove into the path of the tractor, which was traveling westbound.

The driver of the tractor, Steven J. Mann Jr., 22, of Kincaid, had non-life-threatening injuries, according to an ISP news release.

Bulpitt is a village of about 200 people 27 miles southeast of Springfield.

The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is continuing its investigation.
