Mazda Second Only To Lexus In Consumer Reports Brand Reliability Rankings

In the latest Consumer Reports brand rankings, Mazda ranks second. Here’s how close the brand came to being first overall.

Consumer Reports has released its latest rankings of overall brand quality. Many will not find it a surprise that Lexus took the top spot. The Lexus brand has always been anchored in a dedication to quality, durability, and reliability. However, Mazda, scoring 74 vs. Lexus 75, came within a single point of being in first place overall.

Consumer Reports predicted reliability score is calculated on a 0-to-100-point scale, with the average rating falling between 41 and 60 points. For a brand to be ranked, Consumer Reports must have sufficient survey data for two or more models. Some brands, like Dodge, had an insufficient sample size to be ranked. Data is from owner reports, not editor opinion.

In the Consumer Reports individual model ranking, every Mazda model except the Mazda3 earned a score higher than the industry average. The MX-5 Miata had the highest score of 88 among Mazda models, with the CX-9 coming in second with a score of 85. The CX-5, Mazda’s top-selling model by a country mile, had a very respectable score of 80. The CX-30 scored 75.
