Tucson Mother Accused in Death of Her Child

Pima County authorities say a Tucson mother faces murder charge after her unattended daughter fell into a pool and drowns.

On Nov. 20, Pima County officials say 29-year-old Sarah Coleman called a family member on Sunday, saying that she had found her 2-year-old daughter unresponsive in a pool.

Firefighters responded to the Tucson home on East Collie Drive at about 4:30 p.m. in an attempt to resuscitate the child. The toddler was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An investigation into the drowning determined that Coleman had fallen asleep inside the home, leaving the child unattended. Detectives determined that criminal violations were discovered, although authorities did not explain what those specific violations were.

Coleman was arrested, accused of negligent homicide, and has been booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Complex.

The investigation is ongoing.
