Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has given an insight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's farewell speech following his departure - and it shows "the values of the man".

The Norwegian manager, who was sacked after the club's 4-1 defeat against Premier League strugglers Watford, arrived at the Carrington training base on Sunday morning to say his goodbyes.

On his own terms, Solskjaer then decided to conduct a final interview with Manchester United's official channel; an emotional chat that voiced his appreciation for the players, the staff, the fans and everyone associated with the club.

Solskjaer was clearly keen to pay tribute to those who helped throughout his almost three-year spell at Old Trafford. So what did he say?

In a pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday night's crucial Champions League clash against Villarreal, club captain Maguire opened up about the final chat at Carrington as he sat alongside caretaker manager Michael Carrick.

"The manager came in and spoke to us, it was an emotional day and everyone's got a huge amount of respect for Ole. He is a legend of the club and will remain a legend of the club," Maguire told reporters.

"I don't want to go into too much depth about what he said but he wished us well. He said he'd be supporting us, he said we need to get back on track, get focused on the game against Villarreal now and make sure we go into it with a positive mindset.

"One thing he said was he'll be supporting us and wanting us to win every game of football, which shows the values of the man."

In his final interview with United's official channel, a tearful Solskjaer also opened up about the chat he had with United's squad at Carrington.

"As I've said to them this morning as well, trust yourselves, you know we're better than this," he says. "We've not been able to show it but go out, chest out, enjoy being a Manchester United player, Champions League, the biggest stage.

"If and when you win the game, you're through to the next round, Michael [Carrick] is going to be in charge. Michael, I have the utmost respect [for], I love Michael to bits.

"I'm becoming emotional now because he's top... they'll be fine. I'll watch them and support them."
