The British Royal family has often wowed the world with their living arrangements, especially those directly in line to the throne. However, new reports claim that Prince Charles, who will be taking over the crown once Queen Elizabeth passes away, plans to ax the Kensington Palace.

Why Is Prince Charles Axing Kensington Palace?

The historical Kensington Palace is a very large estate owned by the Royal Family. It has several living quarters within its gates, including Apartment 1, where Prince William and Kate Middleton reside.

Reports claimed that Prince Charles plans to decommission the palace as soon as he sits on the throne due to royal members choosing to live elsewhere. The apartment boasts 21 rooms, which are mostly not in use.

Most, if not all, royal fans are aware that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were housed together with Prince William and Kate Middleton. But, the Sussex pair chose to live separately.

There are also growing talks within the Palace that Prince William and Kate Middleton are looking at Windsor to become their official home living Kensington Palace almost empty.

Historian Christopher Warwick believes Prince Charles will rent out the palace or hold it in reserve to accommodate future royals. He said:

"Whispers that Kensington Palace's days as an official residence are numbered are a pointer to how many changes we are going to see when Charles becomes King. He would be wise to rent it out and hold it in reserve should he need to accommodate any royals down the line."

According to royal experts, this aligns with Prince Charles' plans to slim down the monarchy.

Windsor Castle is a royal residence located in Berkshire, and it is currently the official residence of the reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II.
