BLUEWATER BAY — A 23-year-old Fort Walton Beach man was killed Saturday when he reportedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail on State Road 293.

The crash occurred about 11:15 p.m. just south of Lakeshore Drive near the north end of the Mid-Bay Bridge near Bluewater Bay, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Motorists sit in traffic at the Mid-Bay Bridge toll plaza in Niceville, waiting to cross Choctawhatchee Bay to Destin. Completed in 1993, the 3.5-mile span made it much easier for vacationers to reach Destin and helped fuel the growth on the eastern end of Destin. [MICHAEL SNYDER/NORTHWEST FLORIDA DAILY NEWS]
