Manchester United Have Paid Out Incredible Amount In Compensation Since Sir Alex Ferguson Left

Manchester United have now sacked four managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Manchester United's sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added to an already incredible compensation total at the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

United confirmed on Sunday that Solskjaer had been relieved of his duties following a dismal run of results that left them ninth in the Premier League and 12 points off league leaders Chelsea.

Solskjaer's final game of his three-year stint in charge of United was the 4-1 hammering at the hands of Watford.

Michael Carrick will now take charge on a caretaker basis for the coming games as club chiefs look to replace him.

But with Solskjaer signing a new three-year contract in July, he negotiated a £7.5 million payout upon his exit at the club.

Incredibly, as per The Sun, that means they've splashed out £38 million in compensation on four managers since 2013.

The first manager of the post-Fergie era was fellow Scot David Moyes, who walked away with £7 million after being dismissed prior to seeing out a full season.

The former Everton boss had been given a six-year contract as Ferguson's replacement.

Louis Van Gaal was sacked just a day after guiding United to the FA Cup in the 2015/16 season and got a tidy £8.4 million for his troubles.

Then came Jose Mourinho, the serial winner with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

But despite a League Cup, Europa League and second-placed finish, he was sacked in December 2018 following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

He didn't too badly financially, though, leaving with a ridiculous £15 million compensation fee.

In total, the current Roma boss has received an insane £93.5 million in pay-offs during his managerial career.

United are now looking for their next manager, with Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane, Erik ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers just some of the big names linked with the vacancy.
