Following an impressive run to the American League Championship Series, the Boston Red Sox have made sure to lock up manager Alex Cora for the distant future.

Cora led the Red Sox to a 92-70 record, beating the New York Yankees in the AL Wild Card game. Boston proceeded to pull off the upset in the ALDS, knocking out the Tampa Bay Rays in four games, who won the AL East.

The ALCS proved to be too tall of a task for the Red Sox as they came up against an electrifying Houston Astros ballclub, who took down Boston in six games. Nonetheless, it was an impressive season for a team that wasn't expected to make any noise at all in 2021.

Cora was re-hired by the Red Sox last November after serving a one-year suspension for his involvement in the Astros' cheating scandal. He's now under contract on a four-year deal with Boston. Cora had this to say about his extension:

“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to manage the Red Sox,” Cora said, via RedSox.com. “We experienced so many special moments as a team and as a city in 2021, but we still have unfinished business to take care of. I am excited about the current state of our organization and eager to continue my work with our front office, coaches, players, and everyone who makes this such a special place.”

Cora was hired by the organization in 2017 and proceeded to lead them to a World Series title in 2018. He finished fifth in the AL Manager of the Year voting this past season.
