Suicide Squad Star Will Smith Reportedly Marvel-Bound

2016's Suicide Squad may have been a huge critical letdown but Will Smith's performance as the notorious mercenary Deadshot was enough to please audiences. However, the actor didn't reprise his role in James Gunn's reimagining of the DC Extended Universe team-up film and it left a lot of people scratching their heads as to why he was recast when his co-stars Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, and Viola Davis all returned for the project.

Back in September, Smith finally broke his silence and said that his prior commitments prevented him from returning to the DCEU as Floyd Lawton. While the actor never got into detail about his status in the franchise and what the future holds for him, many fans believe that he got frustrated after Idris Elba's character Bloodsport "replaced" him as the de facto leader of the Squad.

Now, a new scoop from the folks over at Giant Freakin Robot claims that Smith is gearing up for his comic book film return but there's a catch... he's reportedly jumping ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the site, the Men in Black star is currently in talks with Marvel Studios for a potential role in the billion-dollar franchise. They also added that Smith is adamant about being a "major player" in the MCU.

Will Smith joining the MCU is a dream casting for sure that many fans have also been wanting to see. With Marvel Studios set for a major expansion with the arrival of the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, there's obviously plenty of roles for Smith to choose from and ultimately take on. Personally, I'd love to see him become a hero in the MCU simply because he's already proven how good of a bad guy he can be.

Meanwhile, David Ayer's Suicide Squad is available for streaming on HBO Max.
