New England, the 2021 Supporters’ Shield winners, earned a bye through Round One of the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs and will begin the postseason campaign next Tuesday night against a team it defeated twice in three regular season meetings, with one loss. New England won the first contest at Red Bull Arena on June 19, 3-2, thanks to an eight-save performance by Matt Turner and a late winner from Tommy McNamara. New York City evened the series with a 2-0 victory on Aug. 28, propelled by a brace from MLS Golden Boot winner Valentin Castellanos. In the latest encounter, a Sept. 11 clash at Gillette Stadium, New England overcame an early deficit as Tajon Buchanan tallied a second-half goal in a 2-1 triumph.

As the two clubs prepare to meet for the first time in the postseason, the Revolution lead the all-time series between the two Eastern Conference sides, 9-6-4, including a 5-2-2 mark at Gillette Stadium since the Bronx Blues entered the league in 2015.

This marks the third consecutive playoff berth for the Revolution, who posted the best regular season in MLS history with a league-record 73 points and 2.15 points per game. By topping the regular season table, the Revs secured homefield advantage throughout the playoffs, including a potential 2021 MLS Cup final at Gillette Stadium should New England advance to the championship match, In 2021, the Revolution turned Foxborough into a fortress by matching the club’s best-ever home record with a 12-2-3 mark at Gillette Stadium.
