How Expensive Will Thanksgiving Be This Year?

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, you may or may not have your plans secured.  I am currently away from home, and not sure what my family will be doing, but at least I can enjoy a few days off.  One way or another, I will not be cooking.

I was fortunate to have a mother and grandmother or extended family that worked wonders in the kitchen.  They had everything down to a science.  I am not sure how they did it.  And I never thought about the cost.  Perhaps I should have.

According to the American Farm Bureau, this year's Thanksgiving will cost about 14% more this year than last.  They tell us this year, that it will cost about $5.33 per person.  In figuring out their stats, they base it on a average of 10 people.  So if you had $53, that would be enough to buy a turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, butter and rolls, peas, veggie tray, cranberries, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee and a gallon of milk.

That is an impressive feast.  If anyone is preparing all of that, my compliments.  And if you have an extra chair, I can be right over.

Now this is a decent size jump from the previous year.  Not a surprise.  There are supply chain issues stemming from the pandemic that we are still dealing with.  Inflation is also happening.  But if you are trying to stretch a buck, perhaps try and get an exact count of who you will be having for the feast this year, and see what items are necessary and what you can go without.
