Borussia Dortmund have announced that Thorgan Hazard has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in quarantine.

Borussia Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard has gone into quarantine after returning a positive COVID-19 test on Monday. The Black and Yellows have confirmed that the Belgian international did not have any contact with his teammates on Sunday or Monday.

It remains to be seen at the moment how long Hazard will have to stay in quarantine, but he will definitely not travel to Portugal for Borussia Dortmund’s UEFA Champions League group stage clash against Sporting CP on Wednesday.

Borussia Dortmund have also confirmed that all members of the club’s professional squad, U-23s squad, as well as the coaching and support staff are either 100% vaccinated or have already recovered from COVID-19. As a result, no further quarantine measures are required at the moment.

Hazard’s absence is another big blow for Borussia Dortmund, who are dealing with several injury problems at the moment. Erling Haaland and Gio Reyna are both sidelined with their respective injuries, while Youssoufa Moukoko also missed Saturday’s game against VfB Stuttgart with an eye infection.

One of Steffen Tigges and Ansgar Knauff could come into the starting XI in Hazard’s absence on Wednesday.

Hazard has made a total of 14 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund so far this season, scoring four goals. He played 90 minutes in the game against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday and helped set up Marco Reus’ winner. We hope that he has a speedy recovery from COVID-19 and we get to see him back on the pitch very soon.
