Hate Movie Remakes? Get Paid $1,234 to Watch the Classics!

It has been 20 years since we found out Harry Potter is a wizard and Frodo embarked on his journey to destroy the ring.

The team at US Dish is seeking to find  a nostalgia movie critic that is willing to rewatch 5 of their favorite childhood movies and get paid $1,234.
All that is asked is  that the person is essentially a kid-at-heart who won’t mind getting into our time machine.

Why Embark on our Nostalgia Adventure

With movies that have impacted generations celebrating anniversaries, getting remade, and receiving much-deserved next installments, we wanted to memorialize those films that made us.
Plus, wouldn’t it be fun to see what has changed when we watch them from an older (and wiser) perspective?

  • Movies celebrating anniversaries:

    • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (20th)
    • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (20th)
    • Beauty and the Beast (30th)
    • Hook (30th)
    • Fiddler on the Roof (50th)
  • Movies celebrating remakes:

    • Dune
    • West Side Story
  • Much-awaited sequels:

    • Ghostbusters: Afterlife
    • Top Gun: Maverick
    • Matrix 4

The Adventure and Pot of Gold

The nostalgia movie critic can share their childhood films with children in their own family, with friends, or with a partner. They can recruit whatever crew they desire before they sail off to watch 5 childhood movies by January 15th. We’ve even built a map that can guide the winner to the highest-rated childhood movie of their decade.

The winner will get access to their 5 chosen movies, $1,234 in cash (that’s about $245 per movie!), and a box of treats from the decade they grew up in.

How to Apply

Applications will be accepted now (November 19) until December 17, 2021 at 12 PM MT on our official application page.
To apply, applicants must tell us which 5 childhood movies they would want to watch if they were picked.
For bonus points, applicants can include a video of why this is the perfect adventure for them.
The more creative, the better!

How to Find Childhood Nostalgia on DISH

If you apply for the childhood nostalgia dream job—or just want to share classic ’80s or ’90s movies with your own kids—you’ve got tons of ways to watch them on DISH.

At home on your Hopper DVR

  2. Link your Hopper to Google or Alexa and ask for “nostalgic movies” or specific movie titles.
  3. Do a manual search on your Hopper using the same terms.

Wherever you go with the DISH Anywhere app

With the DISH Anywhere app, you can take 100% of your live, recorded, and On Demand DISH TV virtually anywhere—including the favorite childhood movies you might want to take on your next road trip or to the dentist’s office to calm your little one. To find your favorite oldies on the DISH Anywhere app, type “nostalgic movies” or specific movie titles into the search bar. You can even download select titles for offline viewing.

Stevie’s Note:
This contest is definitely my cup of tea. I love watching (and rewatching) old movies. If I were to enter this contest, I would want to see the following movies:

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (20th)
  • Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (20th)
  • Beauty and the Beast (30th)
  • Top Gun: Maverick
  • Dune

These are movies that I have seen multiple times both in theaters and at home. There is only one movie in the movies listed in the three movie categories and that’s West Side Story.  I still watch Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Beauty and the Beast as well as Dune. When I find time to get to a nice theatre I would see all three of the upcoming sequels.

Please let me know if you are entering this contest. It would be a great contest for you.. and you have a great chance to WIN!
