Anjali Rao has made history by dramatically quitting Real Housewives of Melbourne mid-way through the season.

The former CNN anchor joined the reality TV show in February of last year. But, last night the new cast member revealed that she wasn’t interested in staying on the show.

“I just don’t want to be around those people. Other than you two and Jackie [Gillies], I just – they are not for me,” she said to co-stars Kyla Kirkpatrick and Cherry Dipietrantonio during last night’s episode.

In a piece to camera, Rao added: ‘There’s something about this group that Kyla and Cherry get, something positive. I have no idea what that is. And I’m out.”

‘You don’t deserve my explanations. You don’t deserve my words. You don’t deserve my presence. I am leaving, and I can’t wait to get away from these people.”

Rao told Kyla and Cherry that she was ready to leave, explaining: “leaving this group – that is my decision, and my decision alone. And I’m taking it. I am taking it.”

Proving that the exit was seemingly a spur of the moment decision – rather than an elaborate producer-led strategy, the screen cut to black with subtitles reading: “After lengthy discussions with producers, Anjali decided to leave the show.”

The exit came after her co-star Gamble Breaux read out a private text message that Rao had sent her in which she discussed the other housewives.

“You all have fake fights and you have fake fun,” Anjali wrote in the message. “It’s getting me down. I’m just dying for something that means anything genuine.”

‘This is the most bored I’ve ever been in TV and that’s coming from somebody who spent 20 years discussing the Israelis and Palestinians.”

Shortly after the show aired, Rao shared some insight about her departure in an Instagram post.

“RIP to me. I leave behind a trail of seemingly unintelligible words, a truckload of sequins, and six widows,” she wrote.

“Tune in for the next episode when @cherrydipietrantonio and @thechampagnedame go shopping for a ouija board as they attempt to conjure up my tortured spirit 👻 😀”
