Plenty of smartphone brands offer fast-charging capabilities in 2021, with the likes of OnePlus, Xiaomi, OPPO, and ASUS all offering 50W or higher charge speeds on some phones.

Wattage is only part of the equation as Google’s Pixel 6 series and Samsung’s flagships show, as it all ultimately boils down to charging times. So how long should your phone ideally take to charge? We posed this question to Android Authority readers last week, and here’s how they voted.

How long should your phone ideally take to charge?

Results

We posted the poll in a news article regarding a phone with 150W charging potentially launching soon, with over 1,100 votes tallied. And it turns out that there wasn’t an overwhelming favorite in terms of charging time.

The most popular option was 30 to 39 minutes (19.2%), which would be in line with devices like the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra and OPPO Find X3 Pro. This narrowly beat a desired charging time of 20 to 29 minutes, with 16.9% of respondents choosing this option.

In third place and just missing out on second place was the desired charging time of an hour or more, accruing 16.7% of the vote. The people who voted for this option seem to be more concerned about battery health than fast charging times, to begin with.

Just under 15% of polled readers desired a charging time of between 50 and 59 minutes, followed by 12% of respondents who wanted a charging time of under five minutes.

In last place was the camp that wanted a charging time of between five and nine minutes, accruing under 4% of the vote.

  • AnySmarterIdRunLinux: How is this still a thing? If it lasts more than 24 hours it can charge very slowly every day while we sleep. You need to do a better job of planning if you regularly only have 10 minutes and desperately need a charge
  • Itamar Baum: Ideally, phones will charge at 30W, with an option for “rapid charge” be it 65, 100, 120 or higher. Usually I plug it in and full charge within an hour is fast enough, but for those times when i need a top up I’d like the option to fill it as quickly as possible, even if in the long term its bad for the battery. this way I wont degrade the battery as much for usual charges, but only for when it is really necessary.
  • Tony Talks: And here I am with my Iphone’s 18 W charging. LOL. Honestly anything that can charge in 45 minutes or less in ludicrously fast.
