It was good news this weekend as most of the Ottawa Senators returned to practice on Saturday, with only Drake Batherson and Nikita Zaitsev still in COVID-19 protocol. While Zaitsev is expected to join the Senators at some point during their upcoming four-game road trip which starts in Colorado on Monday and ends in Los Angeles Saturday, Batherson is expected to rejoin the team once the Senators return home for a Dec. 1 match against Vancouver.
There are seven games on the Sunday slate.
TAMPA BAY 5 MINNESOTA 4 (Shootout)
Steven Stamkos was the only shooter to score in the shootout as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-4 Sunday.
Anthony Cirelli had a pair of goals to lead the Lightning while Pat Maroon and Alex Barre-Boulet, who was recalled Sunday morning after the injury to Brayden Point Saturday night, also scored.
Marcus Foligno and Brandon Duhaime scored in the first and second period respectively while Kevin Fiala and Joel Eriksson Ek scored with less than three minutes to go in the third to send the game into extra time.
Brian Elliott got a rare start for the Lightning and picked up his second win of the season against one loss as he turned aside 28 shots and all three in the shootout for the W. He has a 3.30 GAA and a .878 save percentage.
Kaapo Kahkonen started his fourth game of the season and took the shootout loss. Kahkonen is 2-1-1 with a 3.30 GAA and a .870 save percentage as he made 20 saves.
Zach Bogosian and Ryan Hartman went at it in late in the first period and each picked up five for fighting. Hartman had just come out of the penalty box as he picked up a tripping penalty on Ross Colton to give him seven minutes on the night.
Marcus Foligno had six hits.
Ryan McDonagh had seven blocked shots in helping out Elliott for the win.
NEW YORK RANGERS 5 BUFFALO 4
Now that’s a tough way to lose.
Ryan Lindgren’s second goal of the season with .7 seconds left in the third, vaulted the New York Rangers to a 5-4 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Rasmus Asplund and Chris Kreider traded first period power play goals. For Kreider it was his 13th of the season and eighth with the man-advantage as he trails only Leon Draisaitl who already has nine goals on the power play.
It was a very busy second period for both sides as Buffalo and the Rangers each scored three goals to make it 4-4 after two periods.
The Rangers received goals from defensemen Jacob Trouba and K’Andre Miller who each picked up their second of the season while Kaapo Kakko had his third. Vinnie Hinostroza got his second, Tage Thompson his sixth and Rasmus Dahlin picked up his third for Buffalo.
It stayed at 4-4 from the 13:12 of the second until Lindgren scored with less than a second to go.
Alexandar Georgiev picked up the start for the Rangers but was given the hook after two periods of play, giving up all four goals on only 18 shots. Igor Shesterkin came in for the third period and needed to stop only four pucks to pick up his ninth win of the season. He is 9-3-2 with a 2.31 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
Aaron Dell stopped 31 shots in taking the hard-luck regulation loss. Dell is 0-2-0 with a 4.32 GAA and a .861 save percentage.
Artemi Panarin had three assists while teammate Adam Fox had two.
Ryan Reaves had seven hits.
Filip Chytil and Julien Gauthier each had five shots on net.
Victor Olofsson returned to action after missing eight games and had an assist in his return.

CALGARY 4 BOSTON 0
Dan Vladar played last season for the Boston Bruins and made his first game back as a member of the Calgary Flames a memorable one as he stopped all 27 shots to pick up his second straight shutout and improve his record this season to 4-0-1 as he shutout the Bruins 4-0.
Vladar got into five games with Boston last season, going 2-2-1 with a 3.40 GAA and a .886 save percentage. The Bruins protected him in the expansion draft but then dealt him to Calgary for a third-round pick in the 2022 Draft as they decided to sign Linus Ullmark and go with Jeremy Swayman as their goaltending duo. Vladar is 4-0-1 as mentioned earlier with a 1.57 GAA and a .945 save percentage.
Swayman was in the Boston net Sunday and gave up all four goals on 31 shots as his four-game winning streak was halted. He is 5-3-0 with a 2.39 GAA and a .908 save percentage.
Johnny Gaudreau got things started at the 1:28 mark of the first with his eighth of the season and that would hold up as the game winner.
Noah Hanifin scored his first of the season in the second as the Boston native had family and friends in the crowd.
Andrew Mangiapane scored his 15th of the season in the third on a shorthanded effort while Mikael Backlund picked up his fourth after the shot was waived off by the referee but upon review, it was determined that the puck crossed the line.
Of Mangiapane’s 15 goals, only one has been scored at home with 14 coming on the road.
Matthew Tkachuk had a pair of assists.
It was a rough evening for the Bruins top line as all three got hit (Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak) in the head by the puck.
Elias Lindholm and Hanifin were each a plus-three while Charlie McAvoy was a minus-three.
TORONTO 3 NEW YORK ISLANDERS 0
In only his second career NHL start, Joseph Woll picked up his first NHL shutout as he stopped all 20 shots in giving Toronto a 3-0 win over the injury-depleted New York Islanders.
The Islanders have six players out of action in COVID protocol as Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Ross Johnston, Adam Pelech, Andy Greene, and Kieffer Bellows are on the sidelines.
Mitch Marner led the Maple Leafs as he scored shorthanded early in the first perio and then scored the third goal on a nice setup by Michael Bunting. In between, Ondrej Kase and boyhood chum David Kampf teamed up on a tic-tac-toe play with Nick Ritchie as Kase scored his fifth of the season. Four have come in the last seven games.
The Islanders injury woes continued in the first period as Brock Nelson suffered an undisclosed injury and did not appear after the opening stanza for the remainder of the game.
Ilya Sorokin was great for the Islanders as he made 37 saves to keep the Islanders in the contest. The Islanders have lost six in a row and have only scored six goals in that time span. Sorokin is 5-6-2 with a 2.58 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
Auston Matthews had six shots on goal.

CHICAGO 1 VANCOUVER 0
Now that’s the Marc-Andre Fleury that the Blackhawks traded for in the off-season!
Fleury turned aside all 40 Vancouver shots to lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 1-0 win over the Canucks. After a horrible start to the season, Fleury is 5-7-0 with a 3.05 GAA and a .911 save percentage.
It was a tough luck loss for Thatcher Demko who gave up only one goal on 24 shots but it was not enough as he is 6-8-1 with a 3.07 GAA and a .905 save percentage.
Brandon Hagel scored his fifth of the season as his third period goal at the 4:12 mark was the only goal of the game. Hagel tipped in an Erik Gustafsson point shot to give the Blackhawks the lead and the win.
Conor Garland had six shots on goal.
Seth Jones had five blocked shots.
Chicago has won five of their last six games and that coincides with the firing of Jeremy Colliton and putting interim coach Derek King behind the bench.
Riley Stillman suffered a leg injury in the first period and did not return.
SEATTLE 5 WASHINGTON 2
Jaden Schwartz had a goal and three assists to lead the Seattle Kraken to a rare win, defeating the Washington Capitals 5-2.
The Kraken snapped a six-game losing streak that sent them to the bottom of the Pacific Division standings with the win.
Calle Jarnkrok and Yanni Gourde each had a goal and an assist while Jared McCann and Adam Larsson also scored.
Philipp Grubauer was great in the Seattle cage as he stopped 37 shots to improve his record to 5-8-1 with a 3.27 GAA and a .882 save percentage.
Tom Wilson scored for Washington as he also set up Alex Ovechkin’s 15th of the season.
It was not a great night for Vitek Vanecek who gave up four goals on 30 shots. He is 4-3-4 with a 2.50 GAA and a .906 save percentage.
Ovechkin had six shots on goal while Schwartz had five.
ARIZONA 2 LOS ANGELES 1 (Overtime)
Kyle Capobianco scored at the 3:25 mark of overtime to give the Arizona Coyotes a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings.
It was Coyotes fourth win this season and they are 3-0-1 in their last four after starting the season at 1-13-1.
After a scoreless first period, Brendan Lemieux gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with his fourth goal of the season with Blake Lizotte picking up the lone assist.
The Coyotes evened the score in the third as Travis Boyd scored at the 4:44 mark with Shayne Gostisbehere drawing an assist. It was Gostisbehere’s 12th helper of the season as he leads the Coyotes in points with 14.
That led to Capobianco’s goal with Boyd picking up one assist. Clayton Keller assisted on both Arizona goals.
Karel Vejmelka was great Sunday in stopping 37-of-38 shots. He won his first NHL game after starting this season and his career at 0-9-1.
Jonathan Quick took the overtime loss as he made 25 saves. Quick is 4-4-2 this season with a 1.88 GAA and a .939 save percentage.
Matt Roy had six shots on goal.
