Jaguars injury roundup after loss to San Francisco

Jacksonville’s 30-10 loss to San Francisco on Sunday added insult to injury — in the most literal sense. The team was facing a barrage of injuries on both sides of the ball that made a comeback against the 49ers an untenable prospect.

The secondary was the most impacted. The unit was already playing shorthanded with the loss of Rayshawn Jenkins, who was ejected, and it then lost both of its starting corners in Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell. Griffin was ruled out with a concussion, while Campbell was deemed questionable to return with a shoulder injury, per the Jaguars PR Twitter account, though he didn’t come back in.

With the pair out, the Jags turned to Nevin Lawson and Chris Claybrooks, who held their own, all things considered, but with Tre Herndon already inactive, Jacksonville’s depth in the defensive backfield was pushed to the limit. With Jenkins out, Daniel Thomas and rookie Andre Cisco saw safety reps, but Cisco also exited near the end of the game with a groin injury.

Those weren’t the only injury issues, though. The team suffered a pair of costly offensive injuries as well, as offensive tackle Cam Robinson was listed as questionable to return with a knee injury, while receiver Jamal Agnew carried the same designation after leaving with a hip injury. Neither returned, with rookie Walker Little, who started in Robinson’s place against Buffalo, entering at left tackle. Meanwhile, Laquon Treadwell and Tavon Austin picked up the slack at receiver, notching one catch apiece.

John Brown, who was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad before the game, was targeted once but didn’t make a catch.

This is already a Jags team with a lot of holes, and it doesn’t take many injuries for certain positions to be in dire straits. The Jags will hope that these injuries, which all carried “questionable” designations (except Griffin, who now enters concussion protocol), will not prove to affect the team in the weeks to come.
