Pappas and Winey Tabbed PFL Players of the Week

MSU Athletics

After their performances in a win at Valparaiso Saturday, Morehead State senior quarterback Mark Pappas and senior linebacker Vincent Winey have earned Pioneer League Player of the Week accolades.

Pappas was named Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season, while Winey was tabbed the league's Defensive Player of the Week.

Pappas, from Avon Lake, Ohio, tossed a trio of touchdown passes to senior wideout DeVonte Adams in the 51-38 victory at Valparaiso. He opened the game going 6-for-7 for 91 yards in the first quarter with a 33-yard touchdown to Adams. Pappas added a 6-for-8, 119-yard second quarter outing. He then helped break the game open with an 8-for-10, 175-yard, two-touchdown third quarter with touchdown passes of 12 and 57 yards to Adams.

Pappas finished the season with 3,446 passing yards, the second highest single-season total in program history. He also tossed 28 touchdown passes, which was one short of the program single-season record.

Winey, a native of Lindenhurst, N.Y., posted a game-best 14 tackles and a game-securing pick-six Saturday. His 24-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter put Morehead State up 51-30. Twelve of Winey's 14 tackles were solo stops and five were stops at or behind the line of scrimmage, including a tackle for loss.

He wrapped up his career with 236 tackles as an Eagle, including 106 this fall, which is the most in the PFL and the most for an Eagle since 2012.
