Indiana woman arrested on multiple charges

Staff report

A 48-year-old Mishawaka woman was arrested Friday afternoon in Sturgis on numerous felony charges, after leading police on a brief pursuit through the city.

The Sturgis Department of Public Safety reported the police received a call from St. Joseph County Central Dispatch at 3:28 p.m. that a vehicle was driving erratically on U.S.12 and approaching the city limits.

Responding officers reported they located the vehicle and witnessed several traffic violations. The vehicle was stopped in a business parking lot in the 400 block of South Centerville Road. As officers tried to make contact with the driver, she fled and led officers on a short vehicle pursuit. That pursuit ended near the intersection of West South Street and South Nottawa Street and, after a brief struggle, the driver was taken into custody.

The woman was arrested and charged with numerous felonies, including fleeing and eluding police and felony driving while intoxicated. During the investigation, records showed it was the eighth time the woman had been arrested for driving while intoxicated. She was being held at the St. Joseph County Jail and denied bond, pending arraignment.

Sturgis police were assisted by the St.Joseph County Sheriff's Office.
