Britney Spears and Lady Gaga are praising each other.
The superstars gushed over each other in a pair of Instagram Stories Friday night, exchanging kind words and possibly forming a new friendship. The “Stronger” singer shared a clip of Gaga, in which the House of Gucci actor responded to a question about Britney during a red carpet interview, days after the termination of Britney’s 13-year conservatorship.
“The way that she was treated in this business was really wrong, and the way that women are treated in the music industry is something that I wish would change,” Gaga says. “I think she will forever be an inspiration to women.”
Alongside the clip, the “…Baby One More Time” singer wrote, “Thank you @ladygaga for genuinely taking your time to say something so kind. You made me cry !!! I love you !!!”
Gaga responded to Britney with her own Instagram Story, sharing a sweet message along with a makeup-free selfie.
“Love you @britneyspears. Live your best life. ❤️❤️❤️ I prayed for the legal system to treat you like a person,” she wrote. “You’ve now changed the course for women in this industry forever. You stood up for yourself and were so brave. Thank you. 🙏”
Gaga has expressed her admiration for Britney before. She also posted an emotional message celebrating the news of Britney’s conservatorship ending last week, the morning after Judge Brenda Penny officially terminated the legal arrangement. In the post, Lady Gaga congratulated the “Lucky” singer and called her a “superstar and a superhuman being.”
“I have loved @britneyspears her whole career. I looked up to her, admired her strength—she empowered so many people and still does. I couldn’t be more happy for you today. You never deserved what happened. Thank God 4 today you’re a superstar and a superhuman being,” Gaga wrote on Twitter.
