Leaker asserts Apple iPhone 14 Pro will likely feature USB-C port

It appears the iPhone 14 Pro might be fitted with a USB Type-C port according to details shared by LeaksApplePro (via iDropNews). The tipster reckons there are three good reasons for Apple to make sure at least the Pro models of the iPhone 14 will come with the port. With a student auctioning off an iPhone X with USB-C functionality that he constructed, which received a massive winning bid of US$86,001.00, it’s easy to see that there is plenty of enthusiasm for an iPhone with such a port.

According to the source, people familiar with the matter have offered at least three reasons for why Apple may forge ahead with a USB-C port on the iPhone 14 Pro. The first reason mentioned is data transfer speed, with most Lightning cables restricted to USB 2.0 transfer speeds. Older iPad Pro tablets could manage USB 3.0 rates with their Lightning ports but Apple switched to a USB-C port for the 2018 model. It seems only logical that the Cupertino-based company will eventually switch to the same standard for its iPhone products too.

Additionally, legal and environmental issues could force Apple into including a USB-C port with the iPhone 14 Pro. There have been pushes in US and European governmental bodies to make the tech industry utilize a single charging cable standard in the form of USB-C. This would reduce electronics waste, which is something apparently close to Apple’s company ethos when it comes to environmental practices. There is also the argument that Apple could cut some costs and simply ship the iPhone 14 Pro without a USB-C cable due to their current proliferation.
