  1. ABOUT LAST NIGHT

It's not every day you crack open the record books of a franchise steeped in history.
Unless, of course, your name is Andrew Mangiapane.
The Bread Man is absolutely dialled in right now, adding another two tallies to that bloated goal column last night and leading the Flames to a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders.
He now has 14 on the year, with all but one coming away from the Scotiabank Saddledome. He is now the fastest player in Flames lore to score 13 road goals.
And, according to Sportsnet Stats, he now has 26 tucks in his last 29 games overall, including the seven he played at the IIHF World Championship in May.
You know, the event where he was named the tournament MVP and took home a gold medal for his efforts?
Yeah, things are going quite well for No. 88 these days.
But he wasn't alone on this night, with the Flames digging deep, pulling together and grinding out the two points in a game closer than the scoreboard might suggest.
The Flames opened up 2-0 and 3-1 leads thanks to Mangiapane and Brad Richardson, before the hometown Islanders - in the official christening of their barn in Elmont, New York - roared back and made it a one-goal game early in the third period.
Jacob Markstrom stood tall, however, stopping 34 shots to preserve the slim advantage before Trevor Lewis and Johnny Gaudreau scored into the empty net late.
"Marky was probably our best player," said Richardson, who scored the historic first goal at UBS Arena and will be the answer to the trivia question for decades to come. "He made some big saves. It was a weird game - a lot of penalties and we couldn't really get into it. Then the third had a lot more flow, but I think they had the pace in the third but we held on and kept our composure."
The Flames are now 3-1-2 on this mammoth, seven-game road swing, which comes to an end tonight in Beantown. They can turn a 'good' trip into a 'great' one with a victory before the long flight home.
"It's been a long road trip, so we've got to dig in for this last game here," Mangiapane said. "I think we're playing as a team and it's great to see."

2. KNOW YOUR ENEMY

As Paul Rudd said in that now-viral episode of Hot Ones: "Hey, look at us!
"Who would have thought?!"
The Bruins were also in action last night and they, too, picked up a 5-2 road win as they knocked off the Flyers in the City of Brotherly Love.
The B's were coming off an extended, six-day break between games, but the rare layoff had no ill-effect, with the visitors piling up season-high 44 shots in the victory.
Former Flames defenceman Derek Forbort scored twice, while Tomas Nosek, Craig Smith and David Pastrnak added singles.
Linus Ullmark made 29 saves, improving his record to 3-3-0 on the year.
Forbort, meanwhile, hadn't scored twice in the same game since the 2014-15 season when he was a member of the AHL's Manchester Monarchs.
"I guess they come in bunches sometimes," Forbort told Matt Porter of the Boston Globe.
Indeed.
Here's a stat for you:
In his first 331 career games, Forbort scored eight times with a career high of two (achieved thrice) in a single season.
In 14 games with the Bruins, the 29-year-old now has four tucks and tied for fifth in team scoring with the sharp-shooting Taylor Hall.
"His release is good," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "He's hit the net when he's had his opportunities, whereas some of our other guys have been off-net. … I think he's a smart hockey player in general. Every time he's scored, he's kind of found the right spots."
Tonight, the Bruins will hand over the goaltending reins to 22-year-old Jeremy Swayman.
The Anchorage, Alaska native has a 5-2-0 record, along with a .914 save percentage and a 2.16 goals-against average.

3. DID YOU KNOW?

HE'S THE MANG: Mangiapane now has the third-most goals in franchise history in the team's first 18 games, tying Jarome Iginla (2001-02) and Joe Nieuwendyk (1989-90). Gary Roberts had 15 goals in the first 18 games in 1989-90 and Lanny McDonald had 16 in 1982-83.
LOVING LINDY: Elias Lindholm will skate in his 600th-career game tonight. Lindholm, a first-round draft pick (5th overall) in the 2013 draft was acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes on June 23, 2018, and has 83 goals and 114 assists for 197 points in 224 games as a Flame. Lindholm is currently second in team scoring this year with 18 points (8G, 10A) in 18 games.
And speaking of those vaunted ex-Hurricanes…
NOAH'S ARC: Bostin native Noah Hanifin has had plenty of success against his hometown team over the years. The 24-year-old has 10 points (2G, 8A) in 13 career games against the B's - tied for the second-most points against any one team. The most: Columbus (11 points). … Hanifin played one season at Boston College where he scored five goals and 23 points in 37 games before being taken in the first round of the 2015 NHL Draft. ... Hanifin is coming off his third-career three-point game with a trey of helpers last night in on the Island.

4. PLAYERS TO WATCH

Flames - Andrew Mangiapane
Talk about good company.
Mangiapane enters tonight's game tied with Alex Ovechkin for second on the league's goal-scoring list. Only Leon Draisaitl has more (18). On a per-minute basis, however, no one is finding the net more\, and it really isn't close.
\Among players with at least 100 minutes of ice time
With an average of 11:18 per game, 5-on-5, Mangiapane is scoring at a ridiculous, 2.98 goals per 60 minutes. Only Seth Jarvis of the Carolina Hurricanes is in the same stratosphere (2.27), but he's played only half the games that No. 88 has.
To better illustrate this point, here's where the competition ranks:
Draisaitl - 1.06 Goals/60 (93rd); Ovechkin - 1.51 (23rd)
Bruins - Brad Marchand
Marchand has always been a big-time contributor. He's a perennial, point-per-game winger that topped out at the century mark a few years ago, and brings a wide array of talents, and can impact a game in almost every way imaginable.
But even by his own lofty standards, the start No. 63 is off to this year is turning some heads.
Marchand comes into the game riding an eight-game point streak (4G, 9A), and leads the Bruins with 20 points (8G, 12A) overall this year.

5. QUOTABLE

Darryl Sutter on lessons from last night's win:
"It was really important (to score the first goal). It's natural that they were going to come out really hard and the way they played. It's bred into that team how good they are at home. If you look at last year - they have so many playoff-proven guys and what did they lose? Really, the Stanley Cup Final last year was the Conference Final, if you look at it. What did they lose Game 7, 1-0? Tells you what kind of character they have."
"Just kept rolling lines. … It's a process for our team in terms of learning how to play really hard, physical games, and it shows."
