‘Republican or Not’: SNL game show sketch lets people guess political parties

“Saturday Night Live” featured a sketch this week commenting on Americans’ polarizing political views that often leave people scratching their heads when you don’t have all the information on their belief systems.

Kenan Thompson gave game show contestants host Simu Liu and cast member Ego Nwodim clues by letting guests make ambiguous statements that could mean they identify as either Republican or Democrat, leaving the contestants perplexed without more specific context.

“I think Facebook is evil,” the first guest (Kyle Mooney) says. Liu inquires, “Because they’re spreading disinformation or because they banned Donald Trump?” Thompson does not let them expound.

Money continues: “I buy all my produce straight from a farm,” “I respect pro athletes who stand up for their beliefs,” “God, I hate cops.” The last clue spurs Nwodim to insist he is a Democrat, but the buzzer signifies she is incorrect. Thompson then reveals he meant cops like the Capitol Police during the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol Building.

Another guest says “On Twitter, my pinned tweet is ‘My body, my choice’” and “I support Kaitlyn Jenner.” With the contestants even more confused, Thompson just sits back and eats popcorn. Her final clue: “Last month, I went to a board meeting and complained about a book being taught in my daughter’s school.” Liu buzzes in and says she’s a Republican, but Thompson says no and that she was referring to the Bible.

They then usher out Liz Cheney, and the contestants have no clue.
