A brace from Immanuel Pherai helped Borussia Dortmund II claim a 2-1 win over Hallescher FC in the 3. Liga, ending their run of four straight defeats.

Dan-Axel Zagadou and Soumaila Coulibaly both started for Borussia Dortmund II on Saturday as Enrico Maaßen’s side made the trip to Hallescher FC in the 3. Liga. The BVB U-23s were looking to return to winning ways, having suffered four defeats in a row before the international break.

Former Hallescher FC player Antonios Papadopoulos had Borussia Dortmund II’s first real chance of the game, but he fired his shot over the bar after some good link-up play in the build-up. The home side then came close to scoring from a corner, only to be denied by a vital goal-line clearance from Niklas Dams.

Borussia Dortmund II got their opening goal just a few minutes later. Immanuel Pherai got on the end of a through ball before lobbing the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. It was a fine finish that came at the end of some lovely link-up play between Richmond Tachie and Berkan Taz.

Borussia Dortmund II managed to take a narrow lead into the break, but Hallescher FC found their equaliser eight minutes after the restart. Former United States international Terrence Boyd made it 1-1 with a well taken header after a free-kick.

But the young Black and Yellows managed to get back on the front foot again just ten minutes later. And it was Immanuel Pherai who was on target again. The attacking midfielder made a nice forward run before letting fly from the edge of the box. His stunning effort beat the goalkeeper and restored Dortmund’s advantage.
