Trevon Diggs' record-setting interception pace puts Dick 'Night Train' Lane back in spotlight

Maybe this will be the year.

Dick "Night Train" Lane began his trek to the Pro Football Hall of Fame by intercepting a league-record 14 passes as a Los Angeles Rams rookie in 1952.

The record still stands.

Talk about staying power. Lane, who died in 2002, established his mark in a 12-game season. Now, nearly 70 years later, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is heading into Sunday's game at Kansas City with an NFL-high eight pickoffs that puts him on pace to surpass Lane's record.

Of course, Diggs, barring injury, will have 17 games to break the record with the league expanding its schedule this year. So, if Diggs pulls it off, his record will come with an asterisk.
