Manchester United communicated to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Saturday night that he will be sacked, 90min understands.

The decision comes in light of United's dreadful 4-1 defeat away at Watford - a result that means the Red Devils have now lost as many Premier League games this season as they have won.

Club captain Harry Maguire was sent off in an abysmal display, while United's only goal was scored by Donny van de Beek - who Solskjaer has strangely been rarely used since his arrival from Ajax in 2020.

It was reported that United chiefs called an emergency meeting on Saturday evening following the loss at Vicarage Road to discuss Solskjaer's future.

90min has been told that while no decision has explicitly been finalised at board level, Solskjaer has been informed that he will be leaving the club.

United have won just one of their last seven Premier League games, losing five of them. That sole victory came away at Tottenham - a result which saw Nuno Espirito Santo sacked by Spurs and replaced with Antonio Conte, who surely would have been in the running for the Old Trafford gig if it became available.

Despite humiliations at the hands of bitter rivals Liverpool and Man City, Solskjaer managed to stay on, but the loss at Watford has proven to be the final straw.

90min revealed this week that Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to say 'yes' to the United job if and when the club approach him. Ajax's Erik ten Hag and PSG's Mauricio Pochettino have admirers at Old Trafford, but Rodgers is the man with the most support behind the scenes.
