Pep Guardiola: "I could not be in a better place right now."

Follow live reaction after Manchester City beat Everton to move second in the Premier League table.

Raheem Sterling put City ahead, a minute before the break, side-footing home after a magnificent ball, struck with the outside of his foot, by full back Joao Cancelo.

Rodri made it 2-0 with a thundering long-distance strike that whistled past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford.

Sterling missed a great chance to end the contest but mis-controlled the ball in front of goal after a low cross from Riyad Mahrez.

Cole Palmer, the 19-year-old making his first Premier League start, had set Mahrez through for that opportunity and his blocked shot was pounced on by Bernardo Silva who calmly slotted home the third.

Tottenham vs Leeds: Antonio Conte off the mark at Spurs in Premier League after edging past Leeds

Antonio Conte registered a first Premier League win in charge of Tottenham as they came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1, but will have been left in no doubt just how big a job he has on his hands.

Conte, who oversaw two games before the international break, watched his new side booed off at half-time after falling behind to Dan James’ strike.

But a much-improved second-half performance saw goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon earn the three points and end a three-game winless run.

Tottenham 2-1 Leeds: Reaction of Kalvin Phillips

Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips spoke to Sky Sports after their defeat to Tottenham and touched on playing in defence and a lack of game management that saw Leeds surrender a lead to lose 2-1 at Spurs. He said:

To be honest I don’t know why he [Marcelo Bielsa] did it [played Phillips in defence]. We wanted to be more defensive with their attacking threat. Me and Liam Cooper went man for man marking.

“It worked really well in the first half. But in the second half it’s just a lack of concentration that hurt us. We needed a better game management. We were 1-0 up in the second half trying to push for a second goal. It’s those moments you probably need to pump it long and soak up the pressure.

“We are missing some very good players in our team, some very important players. It’s not an excuse, although we did come here and play some good football.

“I’m not one for panicking. The way we play football we’ll eventually stack some more points on the board.”

Tottenham vs Leeds result: Sergio Reguilon seals comeback and Antonio Conte’s first league win

As Tottenham trudged down the tunnel to a chorus of boos at half-time, Antonio Conte bowed his head and took a deep breath.

He had spent the entire first half pointing and puffing, ranting and remonstrating, desperately trying to coax some intent – and basic coordination – from his players, who trailed Leeds by a goal and had failed to produce a shot on target in almost five hours.

The words spoken by Conte in that 15 minutes in the dressing room, though, will breathe plenty of life and carry the promise of being a decisive turning point in Spurs’ season.

When they emerged for the second half, Tottenham were inspired and irrepressible as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s equaliser at last ended their goal drought before Sergio Reguilon’s rebound sealed a hard-fought, helter-skelter but ultimately well-deserved 2-1 victory.

Tottenham 2-1 Leeds: Reaction from Sergio Reguilon

Matchwinner Sergio Reguilon gave a delightful interview to Sky Sports following Tottenham’s win. Pleased with his team’s performance and the impact of the new manager, he said:

I am the most happy in the world. It’s my first goal in the Premier League and we get three points. Now we continue. When we attack, I have to have the mentality of the striker, that’s what the manager wants.

“Now, I feel dead, but I am also so happy as well. At half-time the gaffer told us to go man for man with extra effort. We gave it everything. This is the way now.

“Our mentality is like a big team. We get the three points. The players, we know we needed to give more [in the second half]. We focused on the game and kept going.”

The Premier League standings

It’s good news for Tottenham who jump above Manchester United to sit in seventh place. They’re now just four points off the top four and will be thinking about pushing for those Champions League places.

Leeds are not where they want to be. Injuries have played a big part in that but they’re 17th and just two points above the relegation zone. There’s enough talent in their squad to keep them up but Burnley (18th) have a way of drawing teams into relegation battles and coming out on top.

Spurs earn first win in four games

It’s a big three points for Tottenham who not only record their first league win in four games but also their first goals. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Sergio Reguilon both got on the scoresheet as Tottenham came from behind to beat Leeds 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Full-time: Tottenham 2 - 1 Leeds

90+4 mins: A remarkable comeback victory from Tottenham Hotspur sees them beat Leeds at home to give Antonio Conte his first victory as Spurs boss. The Italian celebrates wildly as the full-time whistle goes. He’s taken four points from his opening two games. Leeds will be gutted, they were the better team in the first half but just ran out of gas in the second. Their struggles continue.
