English Dub Review: Heaven Official’s Blessing “Confidant’s Past Grudge”

Overview:

The ghost groom attacks. It’s actually Xuan Ji a spurned lover of General Pei Ming. She has been killing the brides because she is jealous of the happiness they get to experience.

Our Take:

I have been constantly blown away by the level of animation in this show. I really need to start watching more donghua, if the animation in this is anything to go by I’m sure I would be blown away. Just something about how the faces are animated is really good to me. There is some noticeably bad CGI here and there but for the most part, this show is a treat to watch.

There was a lot more action than I expected in this second episode. Xie Lian is pretty badass and does some really cool stuff in this episode. It was interesting to me how he can essentially contact “heaven” when he needs help. He even put his fingers to his ears like it was as easy as making a phone call.

I’m a sucker for tragic romances and it doesn’t get much more tragic than what happened to Xuan Ji. She fell in love with Pei Ming and unfortunately he isn’t one for settling down. Now should she of broken her leg to try and get him to pity her? No. Should she kill brides because they will get to have what she never did? Also no. But I do feel for her, you can’t help who you love, and sometimes we just happen to fall in love with the wrong person. I am intrigued to see more of this Pei Ming in later episodes hopefully. We met one of his descendants this episode but that was it.

The cute Xiao Ying died trying to stop Xuan Ji and that was surprising. I thought she was going to be one of the main characters but apparently not. It was pretty sad especially for that boy she was protecting. Which it seems he has some sort of disease that Xie Lian thought was wiped out.

I am really interested to see where this show goes. It has an awesome premise and I really like the whole “God doing good things on Earth” thing we got going on. Hopefully, it keeps up the momentum and I seriously need to check out more donghua’s let me know if you have a favorite!
