The Cowboys and the Chiefs could not be coming off of better weeks. After a tough loss to the Denver Broncos, the Cowboys bounced back with a 43-3 laugher over the Falcons, whereas the Chiefs’ offense finally looked like itself against in a 41-14 win over the Raiders. With these two teams facing off against each other, it would be fair to expect a lot of offense on Sunday, particularly if they come in looking like they did last week.
Dak Prescott looked like an MVP candidate for the Cowboys again against the Falcons, completing 77 percent of his passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns. Prescott added a rushing touchdown to his total, rounding out an impressive rebuttal to his abysmal performance against the Broncos the week before. Now at 7-2, the Cowboys are in a good place in an NFC that is full of teams that are beginning to come down with the midseason blues.
Similarly, the Chiefs may be hitting their stride at the right time. The machinations of Andy Reid’s offense were on full display in primetime last week, and Patrick Mahomes threw the ball 50(!) times for 405 yards and five touchdowns. The Raiders had no answer for a Chiefs offense that looked much more akin to 2019 than it has for much of the season, and the Chiefs are now 6-4 atop the AFC West after being .500 two weeks ago.
This game should have a lot of fireworks, and Vegas has it as a coinflip. The Chiefs are 2.5 favorites as of Thursday, and while this game may not have massive long-term implications for either team in the standings -- it should have no bearing over tiebreakers -- it will be a great litmus test for both teams involved. It’s a testament to how evenly matched these teams are on paper that Arrowhead offers just a 2.5 point cushion to the Chiefs, given the crowd’s reputation.
