Faulkner Scores First Goal of Season in Loss to Army

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (2-6-2, 2-2-2 AHA) recorded a season-high 41 shots on goal, and Mike Faulkner recorded his first goal of the season as the Purple Eagles fell to Army (4-5-2, 2-2-2) by the final score of 4-1 Saturday evening in Atlantic Hockey action from Dwyer Arena. 

Game Recap
First Period
• Niagara was called for high sticking five minutes into the action, leading to Army's first goal of the contest at 5:40. 
• The Army lead would grow to 2-0 before the end of the period as the Black Knights scored their second goal of the game at the 16:05 mark. 
• Niagara had 10 of their 16 shots end up on goal in the first period. 
• The Purple Eagles and Black Knights each won 11 faceoffs in the opening frame. 

Second Period
• Faulkner scored his first goal as a Purple Eagle 3:54 into the second period. 
• Niagara out-shot Army in the second period, 27-14, leading to 17 shots on net, compared to just eight for the visitors. 
• The Purple and White won 17 faceoffs in the second.
• Niagara had two power-play chances in the middle frame but failed to capitalize with the man advantage. 

Third Period
• Niagara again out-shot the Black Knights throughout the period, 20-16, with 14 shots on net. 
• The Purple Eagles won 12 of the periods 23 faceoffs. 
• Army scored twice in the period, the first goal at the 14:18 mark and the second at the 17:09 mark, an empty-net goal for the Black Knights.

Niagara Notes
Walker Sommer finished the game with a team-high five shots on net, while Chris Harpur, Olivier Gauthier, and Luke Edgerton registered four shots on goal. 
• Niagara won a total of 40 faceoffs Saturday. Albin Nilsson won a team-best 16 faceoffs, followed by Ryan Cox with 10.
Christian Gorscak had five of the Purple Eagles 13 blocks. 
Chad Veltri made 20 stops on 23 shots faced. 
• As a team, Niagara recorded a season-high 41 shots on goal. 
• The Purple Eagles penalty kill went 3-for-4 on the night and is now 28-for-38 on the season.

• Niagara will head to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to take on the Wolverines on Friday, Nov. 26, and Saturday, Nov. 27. Friday's contest between the Purple Eagles and Wolverines is set for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop from Yost Ice Arena.
