After a recent interview, Ryan Reynolds had fans stirred – not shaken – when he hinted at a possible future as 007.

"I hear they're looking for a new Bond," Reynolds told The Times. "Could you accept a Canadian sipping gin and tonic instead of a martini? If so, I'm interested."

Today (November 20), however, Reynolds quelled any prospect of being Bond when he shared the article on Twitter and clarified: "I promise you I was not even remotely serious here."

He further quashed any hope by adding a GIF featuring Tom Hardy's character in Mad Max: Fury Road saying: "That's bait".

Keeping the hope alive, however, one fan replied: "Yeah, but a Canadian version of Bond is much needed and I think would be a sure fire hit. A great way to deconstruct and rebuild on the tropes. Get the GoFundMe started and let's get $$."

Another fan was quick to point out: "And they said you couldn't play Deadpool after Green lantern."

Meanwhile, Reynolds has attracted other headlines for his latest movie release on Netflix Red Notice alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot.

The movie centres on an FBI profiler (Johnson), who while pursuing the world's most wanted art thief (Reynolds), becomes his "reluctant partner in crime" to catch an "elusive crook who's always one step ahead" (Gal Gadot).

Despite opening to early negative reviews this month, Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber discussed whether the action comedy may be setting up for a sequel.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Thurber said a second Red Notice film might happen, stating: "I think that is a real possibility."

Thurber also explained how a sequel, maybe even a third instalment in the would-be franchise, could happen.

"If we were to make a sequel, the only responsible thing would be to make two and three back-to-back," he said. "It's such a big production, and if you can mount it one time, it will be better for everyone. Including for my mental health," he added.

Red Notice is available to stream now on Netflix.
