El Paso area closures, events for Thanksgiving week

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – In observance of Thanksgiving, the city of El Paso has announced hours of operation of administrative offices and events.

The following is a list of city services and their hours of operation for Thanksgiving:

City Services and Operations:

Environmental Services Department

Trash and recycling bins that are scheduled to be collected on Thursday, November 25, and Friday, November 26, will be collected on the following Monday, November 29, in observance of Thanksgiving.

Approximately 90,000 homes have their trash and recyclables collected on Thursday or Friday. These 90,000 homes are being asked to wait to roll their bins out until November 29, the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Only grey trash bins will be picked up on the Monday following Thanksgiving. Blue recycling bins will be picked up on their next regularly scheduled collection.

The Greater El Paso Landfill and all citizen collection stations will be closed from November 25 through November 27. The landfill and collection stations will have special hours on November 29 to accommodate customers.

El Paso County Parks and Recreation

El Paso County Parks and Recreation Offices will be closed November 25 and November 26. Offices will reopen at 8 am, November 29.

University of Texas at El Paso

In observance of Thanksgiving, The University of Texas at El Paso will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 25 through November 26, 2021. Regular operating hours will resume Monday, November 29.

El Paso Community College

EPCC will not hold classes and offices will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 25 and November 26.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso will be closed November 25 and November 26, including the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics.

TTUHSC El Paso libraries will close at 5 pm Wednesday and reopen at 7:30 am, November 29.

Normal hours of operation will resume November 29.

Books R Gems

Ysleta ISD

All Ysleta ISD schools and Central Office will be closed Nov. 22-26 for Thanksgiving break. Classes and offices will return to normal schedule on Monday, Nov. 29.

DACC

Doña Ana Community College (DACC) is giving notice that there will be no classes scheduled for students from Monday, November 22nd to Friday, November 26th. In addition, there will be no other services at any of its campuses or centers on Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

PARADES

Sun Bowl Parade

The Glasheen, Valles, and Inderman Injury Lawyers Sun Bowl Parade is set for this Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. (MT) on Montana Ave. 

The parade will air live on KTSM News Channel 9 in El Paso and the surrounding areas.  It will also be broadcast worldwide online at https://www.ktsm.com/9-stream/.

There will be Facebook LIVE segments at 10 am and at 11:15 am. Followers can view portions of the parade on Instagram stories (@tonythetigersunbowl) and on Snapchat (TheRealSBA_1935). 

EVENTS

Prior to the Sun Bowl Parade, the YMCA of El Paso will be hosting its Turkey Trot.

The Turkey Trot tradition features a 5k run that tracks the time run with a computer chip and a 3k walk.

Participants range in age from six years old to 80 years old

Members of the community may register in person at the Metro YMCA branch until November 24 no later than 5 pm and the morning of the race at First Baptist Church, 6 am to 7 am. For more information, call (915) 532-9622.
