Kate Middleton didn't enjoy a Christmas privilege that the Queen gave to Meghan Markle before both of them became official members of the royal family. Check out what the Duchess of Cambridge missed that the Duchess of Sussex was able to enjoy.

Kate Middleton Missed This Privilege Queen Gave To Meghan Markle

Kate Middleton and Prince William dated for over five years before he popped the big question. However, the Duchess of Cambridge was never invited to spend the holidays with the royal family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry dated for over a year before he proposed to her. In 2017, the Duchess of Sussex became the "first non-royal to appear on the Christmas guest-list."

According to the Channel 5 documentary Sandringham: The Queen at Christmas, Her Majesty, allowed Prince Harry to invite Markle, making her the first royal fiancée to join the Queen for Christmas.

The narrator said Markle spending Christmas with the royals was "exceptional." It was taken as a sign that "the monarchy is changing and modernizing."

Why Did Queen Elizabeth Allow Meghan Markle But Not Kate Middleton To Spend Christmas With Them As Royal Fiancée

Queen Elizabeth II does not normally allow royal fiancées to join them for Christmas. However, Meghan Markle was an exception. She was the first royal fiancée allowed to spend the holidays with the members of the firm.

According to royal expert Ingrid Seward, the Queen probably allowed the Duchess of Sussex because she had no family in London, unlike the Duchess of Cambridge.

"Before they were married, Kate didn’t spend Christmas at Sandringham. But then, Kate has a big and very warm family of her own," Seward explained in the documentary.

Another reason was, Queen Elizabeth II couldn't say "no" to her beloved grandson, Prince Harry.

"If Harry asks for something, the Queen would say yes as she adores him," a royal source told People.

Prince Harry Not Spending Christmas With Queen Elizabeth

Queen Elizabeth II will be celebrating her first Christmas sans Prince Philip. The members of the royal family, including Prince Charles and Camilla Parker, and Prince William and Kate Middleton, will be joining her in Sandringham, where they usually spend the holidays.

However, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly not flying to the U.K. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to be with his family for the holidays.

"There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff knows that Harry and Meghan are not coming," an unnamed royal source told Page Six. "They were, they would have communicated it to their family by now."
