Professional wrestling and mixed martial arts are set to collide again, but this time in a different setting. Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones, has announced that he is set to compete in a grappling contest against All Elite Wrestling performer, Jake Hager.

“Breaking news! I’m excited to announce I’ll be competing for the number on grappling organization in the world, Fury Grappling!” Jones posted on Twitter. “December 9th I’ll be in New Jersey competing against WWE superstar and undefeated Bellator heavyweight Jack Swagger.”

While there is a lot to correct about that statement, this is a grappling contest that has been confirmed by the organization, Fury Grappling.

Hager boasts a 3-0-1 record in mixed martial arts. He last fought back in October 2020, where he defeated Brandon Calton via split decision. Hager also had a strong run as a wrestler for Oklahoma, which led to his initial tenure in professional wrestling, starting with the WWE before heading over to AEW in 2019.

Jones has a 26-1 record in MMA. His last bout was back in February at UFC 247 where he won a controversial decision over Dominick Reyes to retain the 205-pound title. He’s also competed in professional grappling organizations, like Submission Underground. Jones’s career has been wrought with legal trouble including failed drug tests and multiple arrests, the most recent of which occurred in 2021.
