Xavi, who returned to the Nou Camp as manager earlier this month, is seeking out potential bargains to improve the squad going forward.

The Barcelona manager is said to see the duo as high quality cut-price options for the Spanish giants.

With the Catalans embroiled in financial ruin, due to their debt which stands at more than £1billion, the club were forced to resort to the free agent market with the signings of Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia this summer.

Xavi has already made his first signing since replacing Ronald Koeman as manager, bringing 38-year-old free-agent and his former team-mate Dani Alves back to the Nou Camp.

The Brazilian though will be unable to play until January when he can be registered.

Barcelona will likely have to repeat their efforts of looking for cheap or free agent signings next year.

Both defenders though are key assets of Thomas Tuchel's squad and the club could make a move to tie them down with the offer of new contracts before the end of the season.

Azpilicueta is Chelsea's current captain and whether he plays in central defence or as a wing back, remains an important cog in the German's side.

Christensen has also become a key member of the squad, particularly since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard at the start of the year.

His importance could increase with Antonio Rudiger also in the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
