Meghan Markle and Prince Harry reportedly won't be joining Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family for the holidays this year. According to Page Six, an "invitation has been extended" to the Duke and Duchess to head over to Sandringham for the royals' traditional Christmas gathering, but "multiple royal sources" have confirmed to the outlet that they won't be attending.
“There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming,” one royal source explained. “If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now. But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”
Page Six reports that the Sussexes "don’t want to cause the inevitable headlines" that the trip would bring, while the source says “I think everyone understands there will be a frenzy when they both come back to the UK, but they need to rip the [Band-Aid] off and get on with it.”
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan last spent the holidays with the royals at Sandringham in 2018, but obviously there's been an ongoing pandemic for the past several years, which has prevented them from traveling safely.
TBD on how the couple spend their holidays this year, but they are expected to return to the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022!
