Philadelphia has yet to lose consecutive games this season and they will try to continue that trend as they welcome in Boston once again. This will be the second time the Flyers have taken on the Bruins on home ice.

The last time these two teams faced off, Philadelphia used a three-goal third period to pull away with the 6-3 victory. Cam Atkinson scored twice while Martin Jones excelled in his Flyers debut.  Boston had made the comeback late in the second period, but would never have the lead in the game.

The Flyers are coming off a thrilling, but tough shootout loss to the Lightning. Tying the game with his second goal of the game and with just 8.1 seconds left, Claude Giroux did all he could to get Philadelphia the win. And despite an entertaining overtime period, this one needed the dreaded skills competition to finish it out.

Boston is coming off their own comeback against the Canadiens. They scored four goals in the third period to cruise to a 5-2 victory. Charlie Coyle and Charlie McAvoy each had two goals in the game.

Philadelphia Flyers

Record: 8-4-3 (19 points, 4th in Metro)

After losing Ryan Ellis after his first game back, the Flyers will now be without Kevin Hayes once again as well. He was injured at one point during the win against Calgary, but did come back for the third period. There is no current timetable on his absence as all Alain Vigneault said on Thursday night is that he would know more in the next 48-72 hours.

So the beat goes on and Philadelphia is without two of its top players once again. Max Willman was recalled under emergency conditions so he will remain with the team for the time being. Nick Seeler has also been back in Ellis’ absence and should have an extended look with the four-to-six week timeline.

The power play has still been a large issue for the Flyers. After going 0/2 in the loss to Tampa, the man advantage is now 4 for its last 40 and at times has taken away momentum from the team. With a potent offense that the Bruins possess, Philadelphia needs to take advantage if they are able to have some power play time in this one.

Martin Jones will have another chance to continue his strong season. In the early going, he is 3-1-0 with a 2.27 GAA and a .931 SV%. Winning his first three contests, Jones suffered the loss against a Dallas squad that all but blew Philadelphia out of the water in a 5-2 loss. He’ll have a chance to get back on track against the team he made his Flyers debut against.

Boston Bruins

Record: 8-5-0 (16 points, 5th in Atlantic)

This will be Boston’s first game since their 5-2 win over the Canadiens on Sunday, a stretch of five days.  So they come in well rested for this one. It’s possible they could start the game a bit sluggish, something the Flyers need to take advantage of if it does happen. The Bruins can flip the switch in an instance.

Brad Marchand has been hot to start the season, leading the Bruins in goals (8), assists (11), and points (19). He’s also registered four goals in his last five games. David Pastrnak has been heating up as well with eight points in his last five games. He’s now tied for second in points (13) with Patrick Bergeron.

It’ll be Linus Ullmark in net for Boston. He hasn’t played since giving up five goals to the Edmonton Oilers on November 11th. The Sweden native has had an alright start to the season with a 3-3-0 record along with a 3.01 GAA and a .903 SV%. He tends to give up goals in bunches, which could bode well for a Flyers team looking to have that breakout offensive game.

Projected Lineup

Marchand-Bergeron-Pastrnak

Hall-Coyle-Foligno

DeBrusk-Haula-Smith

Blidh-Nosek-Lazar

Forbort-McAvoy

Grzelcyk-Carlo

Reilly-Zboril
