Disclosure: We were invited by Disney World to attend a media event for Destination D23. This did not affect our reporting of the event — our opinions are our own.
Disney is known for producing some truly incredible technology.
Whether the animatronics are super realistic or literally dance on their own, they can do some mind-blowing things like fly through the air several times a day! Disney continues to add more and more technology to the parks, and if you remember anything about Robot Groot, you’re in for a treat!
Back in April, we got a first look at the new walking Groot animatronic. Today at the Destination D23 event in Disney World, we got ANOTHER look at the one-of-a-kind piece of technology!
Josh D’Amaro, the Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, introduced us to what Disney Imagineering calls Project Kiwi. We got to see Groot interacting with D’Amaro — it’s very realistic! He doesn’t only walk, but he can wave at people with expressions that you’d expect if you actually saw Groot in real life!
Disney has not said when the animatronic will revealed in real life, but we’ll update you when Disney releases more information. We’ll be at Destination D23 all weekend, so stay tuned for more exciting news!
