Madden has, however, appeared to have captured Michael Carter’s speed

Whether it’s in the digital stadiums of “Madden NFL 22” or upon the cold late autumn field of reality, it’s been hard to stop New York Jets running back Michael Carter.

The rookie rusher, drafted in the fourth round of last spring’s NFL draft, has put up 444 yards from scrimmage over the past four weeks, ranking fourth-best in the league over that span behind only Deebo Samuel (467), Cooper Kupp (488), and Jonathan Taylor (558).

Carter provided a look at his virtual endeavors on the latest episode of “One Jets Drive”, the Jets’ official behind-the-scenes docuseries on Gang Green’s weekly preparation.

In the preview of the latest episode, which was released on Thursday, Carter is shown partaking in the latest edition of the “Madden” football series as he talks with his father Tony on the phone.

The result of Carter’s virtual play session is hardly surprising for anyone who has watched recent downs of Jets football. Facing off against a fictional version of the Kansas City Chiefs, Carter’s video game counterpart breaks loose for a long score.

But a bigger surprise comes when the game showcases a cutscene of the Jets’ head coach – ostensibly meant to be Robert Saleh – is shown applauding his pixelated pupil’s run to glory.

While “Madden” has made its mark as a realistic NFL football simulator, the most recent’s rendition of Saleh more resembles WFAN host Craig Carton than it does the Jets’ head coach.

“That’s great that they make him look like that,” Carter remarks with a smile. Perhaps realizing his boss might be watching, he quickly clarifies that the real Saleh “(doesn’t) look like that,” adding a “that’s crazy” for good measure.

Carter and the Jets (2-7) return to real-life action on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium against the Miami Dolphins (1 p.m. ET, CBS).
