A familiar face is back on Blue Bloods, and Donnie Walhberg in particular is excited to have his pal Lyle Lovett by his side.

As fans of the drama will remember, Lyle first made an appearance on the show back in 2020 when he was introduced as Texas Ranger Waylon Gates, who was forced to come up to New York after the “Lone Star Killer” escaped there.

While Danny Reagan (played by Donnie) wasn’t initially the biggest fan of Waylon (and vice versa), after finally catching the killer together, they came to respect one another. So much so, that Waylon actually gave Danny his hat.

Following that episode, fans took to Twitter in hopes of Waylon becoming a recurring character.

While he hasn’t been back since then, the day has finally come. Earlier this week, Donnie took to Instagram to reveal the big news (you can see the photo here). “Glad to be reunited with this guy [on Blue Bloods],” he captioned a photo of himself and Lyle on set. “And when I actually do ‘have a boat’ again, it’s gonna ‘go out on the ocean’ with all of us and he’s invited.”

You’re the best, [Donnie],” Lyle commented on the post. “Thank you for having me back. It’s a privilege to work with you.”

Fans agreed, sharing their excitement about the news: “Can not wait to see how this story continues loved this duo on #BlueBloods,” one fan exclaimed on Danny’s Instagram post. “So excited! Giddy up,” another fan wrote “I see that fine print and I just want you to know that I wholeheartedly support your dream,” someone else chimed in.

As for the fine print? Donnie wants to sing “If I Had a Boat” with Lyle and is doing his best to manifest it. So, the real question is, when can we expect the collaboration?
