PHILADELPHIA – Anyone who drives in Britton, SD, may have come across someone driving around on the roads with a vehicle that has a dinged-up fender. Inside, it is most likely Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert’s mom.

When Goedert was in college, he had gotten in an accident that involved a deer, damaging the car. Wanting to save money, Goedert’s mom continued to drive around in the vehicle. She had it when he graduated from South Dakota State when the Eagles selected her son in the second round of the 2018 draft and still has the car to this very day.

After the contract extension that Goedert signed on Friday, his mom could be driving something completely different.

Slated to become a free agent in the offseason, Goedert signed the four-year deal after Friday’s practice. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Goedert’s extension is worth $59 million, with $35.7 million being guaranteed.

In the four seasons that Goedert has been with the Eagles, he has caught 166 passes for 1,894 yards and 14 touchdowns. Goedert has seen a significant increase in playing time after the Eagles traded veteran Zach Ertz at the trade deadline.

Goedert was excited about the contract extension, saying it was something he had dreamt about ever since he made it to the NFL. Goedert also thanked several people in the organization, from Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to general manager Howie Roseman.

“I love Philadelphia, and I love playing in Philadelphia,” Goedert said. “I think we have a great young group of players, a great young group of people that I have to go out there and lead offensively. I think we can continue to grow as a group and be really special now and over the next four years while I’m here.”

Goedert said the value of the contract went up from one of the proposals offered to him and his agent this summer. Goedert will no be paid like a top-tier tight end, just behind George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers’ and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I believe highly in myself, and I believe on one of the best tight ends in the league,” Goedert said. “I’m always going to have that mindset. To be paid up there, I feel like the respect that the team showed me. It’s just cool that they see the hard work that I put in, day in and day out, to believe that I deserve it and earned it. It’s a really cool feeling, and I’m thankful that they see what I can do.”

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was also happy to see Goedert remaining with the team, saying Goedert does many things well for the Eagles, and hit makes the offense tougher to defend.

“What’s special about Dallas is that he’s not a receiving tight end, he’s not a blocking tight end, he can do both,” Sirianni said. “There’s not a lot of guys like that who are really exceptional at being able to create mismatches in the pass game and also get their job done in the run game.

He’s shown that for some time now, and he’s definitely shown that to me in the short time I’ve been here.”

As for his mom’s car, Goedert would most likely address that as well as other things that involve those close to him, especially his loved ones.

“I help them out as much as I can,” Goedert said. “I’ll start from the bottom up with my family and close friends and just kind of work my way. It’s cool to have all this money, but when you have it, it’s more about how I can help other people.”
