Darnell Williams hales from Chicago but made his way to Rochester in 2005 to be closer to family – a change he said he welcomed with open arms. Darnell serves as the Facilities Lead at 125 LIVE, a social and fitness center in Rochester, where he has worked for 2 1/2 years. “I love helping people, putting a smile on their face and hopefully joy in their hearts.”

He appreciates that his role enables him to share positive interactions with the senior community.

“If God allows me to get to that age, I can only hope for the same treatment," he says. "A simple courteous conversation has the power to transform a person’s day. It’s too easy to become forgotten about later in life.”

How would you describe your style?

Very well put together.

How does your job at 125 Live impact your daily outfit choices?

Working at 125 Live, I often receive requests from the members, so I try to give the people what they want! On the weekends, my attire is very different. I might wear a casual outfit like blue jeans or go straight formal with a suit and tie, depending on the event.

Go-to pair of shoes?

I have a lot of favorites, but if I had to pick a single one, it would be my orange Nikes.

And how many pair do you own?

At least 25!

Best purchase you’ve ever made?

A Michael Jordan athletic outfit plus the shoes and socks to go with. I spent a pretty penny on that.

Most sentimental item you own?

My fur coat – I get a lot of compliments on it.

What item is worth spending more on?

In my opinion, Jordans are always worth the splurge.

What's the latest ensemble you saw someone wear that made you do a double take?

I have a stylish friend who wears tailored suits with shoes that are always shined. Looking that impressive will always get a double take from me.

How does hair play a role in your style?

As far as my hair goes, I have dreads, so they stay up for a month or two and as long as they're groomed properly.

Best compliment you've ever received?

The nomination from an acquaintance passed onto the Post Bulletin for this feature.

Any items you just can't seem to part with?

I truly love all my clothes the same until they get worn out. If I have items that are torn and tattered, they go to the trash or to certain shelters that can still use them.

You can only keep a handful of clothing items, what do you choose?

My fur coat, Jordan jacket, jeans from Buckle, and Gucci undergarments.

What are the items you think every well-dressed man should have in his wardrobe?

A pair of alligator shoes, a fur coat, a trench coat, a pair of suspenders, a bowtie, and an expensive suit.

Fill in the blank: I feel best when I am wearing ____.

My Jordan outfit (the same one I consider to have been my best purchase).

How can one acquire confidence when it comes to style?

I think it starts with the colors. Opting for bright hues draws attention from others and lights them up. It’s like a bit of sunshine on a dreary winter day. Seeing that reaction instills confidence.
