Grimsby Town 1-0 Southend United

Ryan Taylor's early goal proved enough for Grimsby to snap a run of three straight National League defeats with a 1-0 win over struggling Southend.

Taylor's precise third-minute finish from Erico Sousa's lay-off also saw the Mariners move level on points with Chesterfield at the top of the table.

Paul Hurst's side could have added to Taylor's early strike with the impressive Sousa having a shot blocked before Harry Clifton also came close.

The visitors, languishing just above the relegation zone with one away win all season, managed to limit the damage to a single goal at the halfway mark.

And Zak Brunt missed a glorious chance to level for the Shrimpers late on when he blasted his effort over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

Liverpool lad here. Have a liking for Grimsby following Jevons goal years ago at anfield, I was there! Seem to have it together, Sousa lad look the real deal, good luck, you need to be in league footy.

Long road back to the league unless things change at Southend. Well done Grimsby, I'm assuming your club is better run than ours!! I'd harp on about Martin out etc but it's a waste of time! Just hope we're not in Vanaramma South next season

Long gone are the days the Conference was “non league”. Most if not all teams are full time professionals nowadays. It really should be called League Three.

2nd visit to Blundell Park this season. Mightly impressed when they put Wrexham to the sword, and in front of the cameras tonight this could have been equally as impressive. Fair play to Southend for sticking in the game. More performances like that and they will climb the league.
