Following the public outcry about the horrendous remasters of the classic GTA trilogy, Rockstar Games announced they would re-list the old versions on PC.

GTA The Definitive Edition is an extremely generous name for the absolutely abysmal port of the whatever cursed version of the original GTA 3D trilogy Rockstar's repack was made from. Horrendous remastering work ended up taking way more from the originals than it added, resulting in overwhelming numbers of fans complaining about this glorified mobile port on PC and consoles.

On November 19, 2021, Rockstar Games issued a flimsy apology and quickly tried to deflect through a mention of developers being harassed on social media during the fallout from TDE. However, there are a few positive things coming out of the lengthy post.

First, there is going to be a title update for each of the three games in TDE but it remains to be seen how much of it can be salvaged. If it doesn't turn out that well, however, PC players will get a way to enjoy the vanilla versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas.

These three games will be re-listed as a bundle on the Rockstar Store so let's hope we can actually play them when the launcher inevitably goes down again. Unfortunately, there is no mention of them returning to any other storefront, including Steam for PC or Sony and Microsoft for consoles.

Additionally, anyone who has purchased TDE before June 30, 2022, will also get the classic versions at no extra cost.
