Kitt Scores as Men's Hockey Falls to Canisius

Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Men's team fell to Canisius in the front half of a home and home series by the score of 6-1.

The Golden Griffins jumped out to the 1-0 with six minutes remaining in the first period. After 20 minutes of the play the Lakers were being outshot 15-9.

In the second period, Canisius blew the game open as they scored three goals in the middle frame. The Lakers generated just two shots in the second compared to 13 for Canisius.

Canisius made the game 5-0 just 1:23 into the third period.

At the 16:26 mark of the third period the Lakers broke the shutout as Geoff Kitt took a wicked wrister from the slot and beat the goalie. Wyatt Head and Kyler Head both picked up assists. It is the first time in the 2000s and in Mercyhurst Division I hockey that two players with the same last name have had assists on the same goal.

 

Canisius scored their sixth goal with just 35 seconds remaining while on the power play.

Hank Johnson made 32 saves while the Lakers blocked 14 shots as a team.

The Lakers were 0-2 on the power play while they generated four shots. Canisius was 1-6 with the man advantage and tallied 11 shots.
