Saints report: Women's hockey team wins shootout at Augsburg

Augsburg's men scored four second-period goals to beat the Saints.

St. Scholastica nabbed the extra point in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's hockey on Friday night, winning a shootout with Augsburg 2-1 after the teams skated to a 2-2 tie in Minneapolis.

Kennedy Stein's unassisted goal for the Auggies at 5:26 of the third tied the game for good and marked the hosts' second equalizer of the night. Lauryn Hull opened the scoring for CSS 8:44 into the game, while Kayla Kasel made it 2-1 CSS at 10:56 of the second period.

Goaltender Lori Huseby made 32 saves, including seven in the overtime period, for CSS (4-2-1, 2-0-1 MIAC).

The Saints and Auggies complete their home-and-home series Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.

MEN'S HOCKEY

CSS men felled by flurry

A flurry of four goals in barely 10 minutes of the second period propelled fifth-ranked Augsburg past St. Scholastica 5-2 on Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena.

CSS had been outshot 13-6 in the first period but managed to keep the game scoreless until the Auggies' Fritz Belisle broke the seal on the goal 2:23 into the second frame. After 10:02 had elapsed, Augsburg was up 4-0 and the Saints had pulled goaltender Jack Bostedt.

The Saints got two goals back in the third period from Sam Fuss and Arkhip Ledenkov, but were outshot 32-7 over the last two period and 45-13 for the game.

Fritz Belisle had a goal and two assists for Augsburg. Bostedt made 29 saves and Jack Branby 11 for the Saints (4-3, 1-2 MIAC).

The teams meet again Saturday in Minneapolis.
